Feilding Hunt Club

A general meeting of members of the above club was hold at Mrs Hastie's Hotel on Saturday, and was fairly well attended. Mr Elkington was voted to the chair. Mr H. Lance proposed, and Mr Saxon seconded, That the Wellington Club be approached with a view of their purchasing the hounds, and the proceeds handed over to the Palmerston Hospital. The motion was lost, the chairman giving his casting vote against it. Mr Elkington proposed, and Mr Lovejoy seconded, That the usual annual steeplechase meeting be held on Mr Lothbridge's course (subject to his approval) on Wednesday, the 7th of September. — Carried. In speaking on Mr Lance's motion, Mr Loyejoy thought they should make an effort to keep up the hounds. Mr J. Saxon said that the public would not come forward with their support, and Mr Goodbehere remarked that unless £50 was subscribed locally it would be absurd to think of getting the hounds back to Feilding, It was decided to issue a programme similar to last years' with the exception of making the final event a six furlong hack flat race, and the added money £135 as last year. Mr Lethbndge was elected President and Mr Goodbehere, Secretary, and the stewards and various committees were appointed, thus bringing the business to a close.
