(per press association.) Nbw Yobk, July 22. A gigantic strike of cokemen, aiming at the defeat or ruin of the Carnegie Company, is imminent, Washington, July 24. Mr Fick, manager of Carnegi's mills, has been shot by a Russian Jew. Mr Carnegi offered to reinstate the 1 strikers on condition that they would ■ resign their connection with the Union. Four thousand refused, and were replaced by non-Unionists. The Daily News correspondent wires that the strike will develop into a life and death struggle. July 25. Fick, the manager of Carnegies mill, who was shot by a Russian Jew is likely to recover from his wouuds. On the attempted assassin being taken into custody two dignamite cartridges were found in his mouth and it is belieyed he intended to commit suicide. The accused is thought to be a crazy Anarchist. Repeated attempis have been made to poison the whole of the Fick's family. One hundred aud fifty of Carnegie's employes in Dugsine have struck in sympathy with those already out at the homestean . Sydney, July 24. The Broken Hill strike represents a loss in wages to the men of £45,000 up to date. This Day. The Trades and Labor Council have voted £350 to aid the Broken Hill strikers. Brussels, July 22. The Belgian trades unions are demanding that the hours of work be limited to nine, with complete rest on Sundays. Melboubne, This Day. The Ballarat miners have voted £500 to the Broken Hill strikers.
