Tbe liquidator of the tfew Oriental Bank Corporation states that the creditors'* claims amount to four and a half million pounds, and the assets total £2,100,000. He considers it unsafe to reckon that the {Bank will receive more than 15s in the pound. It is reported tbat the Hazaras have twice entrapped the Ameer's troops killing a hundred. The Sydney Government is calling tenders for 175,000 steel rails, manufactured in the colony from colonial products. At a meeting of the shareholders of the Melbourne Mercantile Bank it was stated that the shareholders would lose the sum of £300,000 before the Bank could be made to pay 20s in the pound. A Committee of Investigation was appointed. M r Labouchere, in Truth, advises Mr Gladstone to postpone the Home Rule question until the Parish Council has adopted the principle of one»man-one~ vote and a reduction is made in the term of residence necessary for qualification ; also until permission is given for members to be paid election expenses and local i option has been passed, as they would then be able to defy the House of Lords. The Irish members are agreeable to this.
