» PALMERSTON V. FEILDING The above Senior Gup match was played on the Oval on Saturday afternoon. The weather was unfavourable to an exhibition of pood football, slight drizzling rain falling almost continuously the whole of the afternoon, also preventing numbers of enthusiasts from attending, however, the attendance was very good, including several ladies. The Palmerston men wired up in the morning asking Feilding to postpone the match, but as several local players had come in from the country it was decided to play. The Falmerston team cannot be commended on their punctuality, for at the appointed time only two or -three had put in appearance and were apparently trying to daudle away the time bo as to make it impossible to play that afternoon and thus have the match postponed. However, the game was started about a quarter to four and the last spell had to be cut short as it became too dark to play. Palmerston kicked off and play commenced in the centre from whence Feilding worked the ball to the visitor's 25's, where a series of scrums took place. From here Palmer: Bton took play to mid-field, but the ball was soon taken back and a scrum formed on the visitors goal line when Kay relieved his side by a kick in touch. Shortly after R. Whisker got up a good rush and Palmerston were forced down. Udy returned the kick out and after a little more kicking Palmerston were again .forced down. On resuming, Jack Robinson made a good run to touch. From the throw in some smart loose play was indulged in by the visitors, and with bad play of the Feilding backs the home team were forced down. Parr kicked oat, but his kick was spoiled by the opposing forwards. J. Whisker and Smith here headed a msb, Watts came up fast and got possession of the ball and an almost certain score was prevented by the slippery ground, he having slipped as he was about to evade the Palmerston fall-back. R. and Jack Whisker, Smith, Watts, and Dyer, were now prominent in several rashes, but' the ball was so greasy that they over-ran it at the critical moment. Aitken here got a mark and Joe Robinson took the kick, which was a long one, but t it resulted a poster. After some play in tnidfield the ball went in touch. The throw-in was taken by a Palmerston forward, who started a rush, and smart passin*? between Robinson, Duncan, and McKemie, took play dangarously near the home team's goal line, but Baillie kicked into touch. From here play was taken back, with B. Whisker at the head of affairs. The play was now up and down the field for some time, when the ball went in touch in Palmerston's 25's and half time was called. Feilding lacked off in the second spell and play commenced \in mid-field. After some few minutes had lapsed a Palmerston man obtained j a mark almost in the centre of the field, [ and Duncan took the kick at goal, but his attempt was unsuccessful. The opposing teams now warmed to their work and give and take play ensued. The Feilding boys had slightly the best of it for some minutes, and made repeated attempts to score, but each attempt was frustrated by the good- defensive play of the visitors, and when time was called play was in the visitors' quarters. Neither side scored, the game ending in a draw. It was mostly a forward game, although the backs had as much as they could do in stopping rushes, and was another proof of what the Feilding men could do if they would only practice. For Feilding Whisker (2), Smith, Aitken, Parr, and both Robinsons worked hard, and for Palmerston Speed, Duncan, and Robinson were about the best. Messrs Saywell and Randall were the line umpires, and Mr Fowler carried the whistle.

Feilding 11. forfeited the match against j the Pirates. The junior match between Palmerston II and Awahuri, resulted in a win for Awaburi by 5 points (a goal from a try) to nil. The match between Sea K&ha and Bulls resulted ifl a win for the former by 8 points to 7.
