Inquest

An inquest was held here on Sunday afternoon last upon Mrs Alice Scott, wife of Henry Scott, who died suddenly on Saturday morning, Mr W. G. Haybittle, J.P., acted as Deputy-Coroner, and the jury consisted of Messrs Bray, (foreman) Carthew, Light, Hamilton, Waugh, and Allan. Deceased was taken ill on Monday the 20th instant with severe vomiting occasioned by eating tinned fish on the previous day. The vomiting ceased on the Thursday, and as she continued to perform her household duties up to that day, no serious results were anticipated. On Friday she was too ill to leave her bed until the evening, when she seemed much bettter. On Saturday morning she complained of cold and dimness of vision. Dr. Johnston was sent for at 7.30 a.m., and found her in a state of collapse, he prescribed stimulating remedies. He was called in again about 10 o'clock and found her dead. Dr. Sorley, in conjunction with Dr. Johnston, held a post mortem, the result of which proved that deceased was of a very delicate constitution, also that there was considerable congestion of the lungs, and they attributed her death to that cause, accelerated by anceraia. The jury returned a verdict of "Death from natural causes," in accordance with the medical evidence.
