Manchester Boad Board
A special meeting of the above Board was held at the Board's office, Feilding, on Saturday last, for the purpose of hear. ! ing objections to taking a road through section 4, subdivision B, and any other business in connection therewith! Present—Messrs^ Lethbridge, (Chairman), Purkiss, Wheeler, Booth, Pearce, and Reeve. Mr McCrea and his solicitor (Mr Esam) waited on the Board in support of his (Mr McUrea's) objections to taking the road through his property. Mr Sandilands attended on behalf of the Board. Mr Esam on behalf of Mr McCrea stated that the Board haye not complied with the provisions of the Public Works i Act that the notice served on Mr McCrea had not stated the number of acres to be taken, that the notice of particulars of works to be undertaken by the Board was insufficiently described inasmuch as it did not paVticulanze the works, that an order in council had not bean obtained to take a road through a plantation, and that it was not a sentimental objection that Mr McCrea had lodged, but was a genuine and a just objection. Mr McCrea stated that the plan presented correctly represented his homestead and property and that he objected to the road as it cut up his property considerably and cut part of his property off from his water supply, also that he waa quite willing to sell the road as previously agreed upon. Mr Simpson gave evidence ac to the value of the land and pointed out that the road as intended by the Board was no doubt the best but that it would cut off the water supply aud considerably affect the working of the property and that he did not think the road as originally laid was not a bad road and the grades not too steep. Mr Owen on the behalf of the Board stated that to ease the grades would necessitate the lengthening of the road. The special meeting was postponed and the general meeting held.' The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The followiug correspondence was read : From H. L. Sherwill, returning officer, stating that the following gentlemen had been duly elected to represent the respectiye subdiyisions : — F. Y. Lethbridge, No 1 ; ,T. Purkiss, No 2; G. E. Wheeler, No 3 ; H. J. Booth, No 4 ; W. G. Pearce, No 5 ; T. F. Reeve, No 6. From Feilding Borough Council, asking the Board to co-operate with the yarious local bodies with a view of inducing the railway authorities to run a aecond through train daily from Wellington. From Clerk Halcombe Town Board, stating that the Board were willing to contribute one third of the cost of forming and culverting the boundary road. from Commissioners of Taxes, requestin" the Clerk to forward fche valuation rolls to the Clerk of the Court, Palmerston North. From J. Guy, requesting the Board to form a portion of the Waituna road. From H. Barnes, requesting permission to erect a temporary fence 3 feet on the road to enable him to plant a live fence. From Clerk Rangitikei County Council, pointing out the necessity for combined action on the part of settlers for the eradication of the small birds nuisance and suggesting the adyisablenes9 of forming clubs for the purpose. From D. Murray, iron founder, offering to make the moulds required for making concrete pipes at a rate of 30s per cwt or about JB6 10s for each mould. From J. Laing, asking the Board to pay £10 for repairs to his buggy, the damage being caused by his horse bolting aud upsetting the buggy and alleging that the bolt was caused through a loose plank on the Oroua bridge. From J. Slipper, requesting the Board to form pathway at Bunnythorpe. From Registrar of Deeds, forwarding copy of plan on certificate of title for section 11, subdivision D. From A. Fredsberg, requesting the Board to form footpaths at Bunnythorpe. Mr B. Tremswan waited on the Board aud asked the Board to have the ditches on the side of the roads in Mugby junction and form and metal some of the footpaths. Mr Remnant waited on the Board and requested the Board to have the Penelope road formed from the Spur road to the boundary of section 8. Mr Dick waited on the Board and enquired under whose control the road on the south side of the railway line was, and asking the Board to take some steps to have it attended to. GENEBAL. Proposed by Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Lethbridge. That Mr Barnes be given permission to erect fence to protect live fence as requested by bim on the Pohangina road. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Booth, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That this Board is willing to co-operate with the Feilding Borough Council re arranging for second daily train from WeUington to Wanganui.— Carried. Proposed by Mr, Booth, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That all lawyers growing on the side of the roads be dug up and cleared away and burnt. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Pearce, That this Board accept fche offer of the Halcombe Town Board of one third cost of forming and culverting boundary road and that the Engineer lay off the road.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Booth, That this Board regrets it cannot eutertain Mr Fredsberg and Mr Slipper's application for footpaths at present.—Carried. Proposed by Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That tenders be called for formation of about 72 chains Penelope road. Tenders to be in by Saturday 18th. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Booth, That the Engineer inspect the portion of the Waituna road complained of by Mr Gray and if it can be rectified at a cost not exceeding £5 to have the work proceeded with. —Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge. seconded by Mr Booth, That £30 be paid by this Board to the Manawatu Road Board on completion of Henderson's Line, — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Pearce, That members attending meetings of this Board have there expenses paid. — Carried. Tenders were opened for various works in Ashurst and the following tenders were accepted :— E. Lyon for metalling Pohangina road, metalling Stanford street, and metalling Bamfield street, and that of Pringle, etc., for the formation of Bamfield street. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Booth, That the Engineer report upon Mr Hammond's apphcation for outlet by the Waituna Valley road.— Oarried. The usual monthly accounts were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
