General Booth's Laud Scheme

(PER PBESS ASSOCIATION.) ! Wellington, This Day, The Government believe there must be some mistake about the announcement that General Booth intends to dispatch his first batch of Salvation Army settlers to New Zealand. They have received no information on the subject, and no land has been alloted in Taranaki or elsewhere. Land was promised on condition that no criminals should be|exported and they first batch was to be selected from the New Zealand contingent of the Army. It was also understood that English draft were to be placed in a Home Colony first, to get agricultural experience, and there has not jet been time to do this. Tlie Premier has cabled to Mr Perceval for further information. It is not impossible the draft mentioned in the cable is in tended for land privately offered.
