Wanganui Education Board
The monthly meeting of the Education Board was commenced last night. Present — Messrs Carson (Chairman), Sauson, Bridge, Baker, Fry, Notman, and Beckett, A telegram was received from Mr George Hurley apologising for his unavoidable absence from the meeting. Election of Chairman. — On the motion of Mr Sansou, seconded by Mr Bridge, Mr Carson was re-elected Chairman of the Board. Eeport on Staffing of Schools. — Mr Bridge brought up the report of the Committee on the staffing of schools, which was read and received, as follows : — " Your Committee beg to recommend that Begulation 82 be amended as follows : ' The teaching staff allowed for mixed schools, when the quarterly average attendance is under 40, will be one master or mistress ; when the attendance reaches 40 a pupil teacher will be appointed, and further additions will be make to the staff in accordance with the following seale — A pupil teacher for every 45 pupils, and an assistant for every 60 pupils. Alterations will only be made in the staff when the attendance has increased or fallen for a complete quarter.'
