(Received, February 6, 11.55 a.m.) Sydney, This Day. A fearful murder was perpetrated last night in a main thoroughfare. A woman, name unknown, was found almost decapitated. Numbers of people were about at the time and the affair is at present a mystery. Sullivan covers Stanbury's deposit on Monday, and the race will be rowed in May. Chbistchurch, This Day. Judgment in the Eden George petition case was given. The election was upheld, George to pay costs. Wellington, This Day. The debate on the educational question was continued at the Anglican Synod last night. Archdeacon Mules, of Nelson, moved the amendment as an addition to the resolution, " That as denominational schools can only be maintained in large centres of population, provision should be made for imparting of religious instruction by teachers in the public schools, and that the legislature be petitioned to. the foregoing effect." The amendment was lost on division, by 24 to 11, and Archdeacon Harper's motion carried on the voices. Robert Taylor, an old expressman, was found drowned in the harbour this morning.
