Taonui and Bunnythorpe.
Taonui is settling down to a quiet country district now that the principal labour absorber (Bailey's mill) has ceased operations, Mr Powell's engagement as schoolmaster having terminated last week the school is now closed, pending the appointment of his successor. The parents are very anxious that this should be done as soon as possible. These districts during the early part of this week were a series of bush fires. We noticed that Captain Campbell had a fairly good burn, including portions of his boundary fences. On another section the fire had been caused by the casual dropping of a lighted match. The increasing number of scholars at the Bunnythorpe school has again necessitated enlargement, thus proving the popularity which Mr Espmer the master has gained. There have been three additions made in four years, The present additions consist of standard room 23 x 33, open roof entrance porch, lavatories, and a children's gallery. The contractors are Messrs Powell and Daniels. The numbers of scholars now on the roll are 76 boys, and 59 girls. The present additions will supply accommodation for 60 more.
