A meeting of the Board was held at the Council Chambers on Wednesday afternoon. Present — Messrs Park, Haybifcfcle, Nye, and Grant. Mr Park was voted to the chair. Mr Haybittle apologised for the absence of Mr Lethbridge. CORRESPONDENCE. From Inspector of Hospitals, stating that he would not be justified in includiug the money on fixed deposit in the name of the Borough Council with the amount on which subsidy was claimed. The Clerk was instructed to make application to Government for subsidies on all moneys accrued. HOSPITAL BUILDING. A report was received from Dr McGregor, Inspector of Hospitals, on the designs for the Hospital building. Mr Larcomb, architect, attended and placed before the Board an amended plan of the hospital building, prepared on the the lines suggested by Dr McGregor. On the motion of Mr Haybittle, the plan prepared by Larcomb was adopted and ordered to be forwarded to Dr McGregor for approval. Mr Larcomb also produced an estimate of the cost of the building, viz., £1800. Mr Grant wished to know how much Mr Larcomb was to receive for the work he had done. Mr Larcomb said he could not state a definite amount at that moment. Mr Haybittle said the appointment of Mr Larcomb to do the work appeared to hare been somewhat irregular, and it was apparent to him, as an outsider, that some local feeling existed in connection with the matter. What th<^ Board wished to know was Mr L*rpomb's fee for the work he had already done. Mr Larcomb said his fee was £3 3s for the ground plan alone, but in the event of his being appointed architect he would refund the amount. On the motion of Mr Haybittle, it was decid -d to pay Mr Larcomb £3 3s for the ground plan, and in the event of Mr Larcomb being employed to supervise the ereGtion of the Hospital, the amount to be deducted from his fee for the whole work. The Chairman stated that the Mayor and Mayoress proposed to hold a bazaar in aid of the Hospital fund. The Chairman said he had iuterviwed the Rev Mr Doull, one of the trustees of the Bulls Hospital Fund, with regard to getting the amount of £400 lying to the credit of the Bulls Hospital account. The trustees wished to have a life governorship on tho Board, which would require to be done by Act of Parliament. Matters would therefore have to remain in statu quo for the present. The chairman said lie estimated the fumls at the disposal of. the Board were £1270 3s 4d. Some accounts were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned. — Manawntu Times.
