Wellington Libel Action
♦ £50 DAMAGES AWAKDED. 1 PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. J Wellington, December 16. Messrs Thornton and Hemrichs, the two defendants, gave evidence. They denied the interpretation put upon the letters by fhe plaintiff, and said it mat* tered little to them by whom the system was concealed from Arch bishop Bed wood, and in fact they did not know. They had no desire to get Evison out of his position. It. C. Harding, publisher of Typo, said Hint if the second letter contained a charge against anyone, ho took it to be against the Archbishop for allowing the sweating system to be carried on in his office. The jury, after a short deliberation, returned with a verdict for the plaintiff for LSO damages, costs being allowed according to scale. Mr Jelhicoe. for the defendants, asked that execution be delayed, as it was probable they would apply for a new trial. The request was granted.
