Most of the speakers referred in laudatory terms to England, but the references to the United States were of an uncomplimentary character. ■/' Washington, November 2. It also declares that the ; United States Government will exf-i haust all means to have the quarrel; settled by diplomacy before resorting! to warlike forces, and further that! British officials iii Chili are responsible for the ill-will between the twof countries. - j London, November 3,.-^ j The Times says it is reportedjthat' American sympathy with Balmaceda 5 was prompted by a desire to obtain a reciprocity treaty. ! Either Mr Egan or Mr Egari's son is alleged to have secured enormous contracts for victualling the array. ■
