Pohangina Notes

[ OUR OWN COKKESPONDENT.I The heavy rain we had oh Tuesday has freshened up the district wonderfully. The grass is growing rapidly, and the rain did not come before it ■was wanted. ■"■ Those pests the weasels are attacking the lambs now and several flock ! owners having suffered loss from these abominable nuisances. The cage will be in position over the Pohangina* river very soon now. It is much needed. The said river has been in high flood lately. The Pohangina school ground is nearly completed, with a good substantial stab fence round it, and as it contains two fc-nd a half acres, the children have plenty of room for games. The fruit trees here seem somewhat short of bearing, considering the amount of blossom that was shown, and a lot of the set fruit is falling off. Early apples^iave set the test. The peaches are apparently recovering, and promise a good crop. This" result is attributed by some people to the late frosts we had. The gooseberries were touched, but not to any great extent. Mr Currie, who had his leg broken when bushfelling, is steadily recovering from the injury.:^ V The influenza has given us a look round, and has, visited a few people. As usual some suffer more than others, but nobody seems to like it -whatever way it catches them. : ■-■•:."' ■ ; Bushfeiling is in great'^swing >now in the.-Awahou and Harbour' Board Blocks, but some pbrtiotis-otthe bush let will, not be down before the New Year is in. Thisj with shearing, building, and fencing,; is the r order of the day here. , l ;;.' - ■ ;
