Shocking Neglect

«— ' . Melboubne, Octobor 28. An inquest was held at Gobrngohe (Victoria) eoncermne the death .of Blanche Haussmann, wife of thePresby.f terian minister at Barndown. The body was about to be buried on Thursday, and J the funeral had nearly reached Gobrngong Cemetery, when a telegram from Superintendent Reyall was received for-" bidding the interment. At the inquest j Dr. Harse stated that he was called inUo see the deceased, and when he reached her house he found her in a dying'condition. She had been delivered of a still-born child some little time previously. She was suffering from bronchitis, evicU ently caused by influenza. Deceased's husband was in the house. Deceased had been lying in an unconscious condition from the previous Friday.,: In witness' opinion great neglect had' been shown in not calling in medical attendance earlier. Other evidence was given,, and the jury, after a brief deliberation, returned the following verdict :— " That the deceased. Blanche Haussmann, died from bronchitis, complicated by 'childbirth, and ire are of opinion that if a medical man had been called in sooner her life might have been saved, and her husband, J. G. Hausmann, and Soph in, Huntley, a niece, were guilty ofneg'« ligence in not calling a doctor sooner; but we do not intend this verdict to be of manslaughter against either of them.' Mrs Haussmann was buried next day. When her husband was leaving the cemetery he was hooted by a number of persons, — Post's correspondent.
