V.— ♦ Mr John Stevens held a meeting last Mondayevening at theschoolhouse, Makirib, when there was a fairly good attendance Mr occupied the chair. The, speaker gave, a^ clear explantation 'as to the benefits which - ultimately can be derfred by farmers * and graziers -from co-operation, and, amongst other things, he stated that he had recently had a lengthy interview with MjTXJavlirigl " of Messrs Carling and C 0.," of ''London, who wished to obtain the London Agency so soon as- the Association shall have been regularly established. He undertook to communicate Tvith the Chairman of - the Provisional /.Directors (Mr John tC^Cotter) 'and^fffrSish fcini with pro Jvrma account sales, showing the large reduction* in- charges which could, under thofc, firms;?agency, be made as compared with those which at present obtain. 1 The meeting" evinced great interest in the project, and at its conclusion a goodly, number of "shares were sub- ' scribed for. - A vote of thanks to Mr Stevens foe his address, and a similar compliment to the Chairman terminated the meeting. There was also % a meeting of Provisional Directors convened here,, Mr Cotter in the chair, on Thursday, but ihe meeting was adjourned until November. No formal 'business was done, but there was some discussion upon the progress" which had, been ': made, the result being that much sat- ~ isfactionwas expressed by those Provisional Directors^ present, who felt certain that f their efforts will, in the near'fcittire, result in the West Coast Farmers' Co-operative Association becoming an accomplished fact.
