Melboubkb, October 21. Carbine was scratched for all engagements at the V.R.C. Meeting to-day. Tradition is also scratched for the Melbourne Oup. Swordbearer has advanced to 7 to 1 for the Derby. The Hon. Wallace explains that Carbine was not backed by the stable, and was kept in to give the public every chance, the horse being comparatively sound until Saturday last. Magnus and Whakawai have been scratched for the Cup.
