The New Guinea Company announce that the Kaiser Wilhelm pantation is badly situated, and adyises its members to exchange shares into the Astrolobe Company which is being formed in Berlui for the purpose of growing tobacco on its land in New Guinea. The King of Wuitemburg died of heart disease. It will be buried on Friday. Copenhagen, October 7. In the Eolkething to-day a bill was introduced insisting that the nation should trade mark Danish butter in order to prevent an inferior quality from elsewhere being sold as the product of this country. New York, October 7. The Methodist (Ecumenical Congress is attended by 500 delegates including 43 , men of color. London, October 7. Obituary— Sir J. Pope Hennessy, M.P« for Kilkenny north. Dr Moorhouse preaching at the Church Congress at Ehyl, declared that the proposal to disendow the Church of England and Wales meant the piece-meal disendowment of the Church of England. He asserted that the voluntary system in Australia was unable to prevent growing neglect. The death of Mr Smith was due to a chill caught while yachting. Acute gout followed and this succeeded in reaching his heart. Mr Gladstone sent a telegram of condolence, and recognising the fine qualities of the deceased gentleman and his devotion to the public service. All the English newspapers make generous references to the deceased and the Times states no man will be more difficult to replace. Sydney, This Day. Influenza is rampant at Albury and Broken Hill and many of the silver mines are short-handed in consequence. News from New Hebrides states that the white residents at Tauna Island are about to leave until the tribal war ceases. It is thought that such consummation will be attained when one side exterminates the other. Sir J. B. Thurston, the High Commissioner of the Western Pacific, will shortly visit Tauna to ascertain if any action can be taken to put a stop to the butchery. Adelaide, This Day. Considerable excitement has been caused here as to the position of the Bank of South Australia, but depositors haye been assured that there is ample security and there is no need for alarm. Bbisbane, This Day. Sir Thomas McDwraith states the Govemnienfc are not in possession of any in* formation indicating that the Bank of England resigns the Queensland business, but were quite prepared to deal with it if received.
