Thursday, September 17. The Hon Mr Bolleston proposed that Mr Hamlin be elected Chairman of Coujinittees for the present Parliament. A. long discussion ensued, which resulted in the Hon Mr Rolleston motion being lost by 40 to 25. The Premier moved that the House disagree with certain amendments made in the Electoral BUI by the Legislative Council, and that managers be appointed to draw up reasons for such disagreement. The reasons for dissenting from the amendments -made in the Land Bill by the Legislative Council, submitted by the managers, were adopted. The House then went into Committee of Supply for the consideration of the Estimates. Friday, September 18. Sir George Grey introduced a Law Practitioners Bill, similar to the one already thrown out by the Legislative Council. Mr Eees was elected Chairman of Committees. Mr Buckland moved to reduce the vote of £4410 for the Audit Department by £1000. After a protracted debate the hon gentleman withdrew his motion. The total vote was ultimately passed, after three and a half hours' debate. Shortly afterwards the total vote of j>72,696 for the Colonial Treasurer's Department was agreed to.
