Thursday, Septembeb 17* The Hon Sir G. "Whitmore bronght ttp the report of the managers on the conference with the managers of the House of Representatives' on the Selectors? Land Eevaluations and Continuance Bill. The Hon Dr Pollen complained of the manner in which Bills were sent in* by. the cartload to that Chamber, andi he hoped the Colonial Secretary would see his way to clearing; off a number of measures which were not absolutely pressing. The Hon Colonial Secretary stated hewould be able to give the desired information next day. A.s far as. he knew there were not many more Bills to come. The Payment of Members- Bill, having been reinstated on the order paper, Mr Buckley moved that it be now read a second time, to which Mr Millar proposed, as an amendment, " That the Bill be finally laid aside." The amendment was carried by 15 to 5 without debate. Fkedat, September 18. The Electoral and Land Bills were reintrodnced, and the Council insisted on its amendments in both measures. The Land for Settlement Bill was thrown out.
