FEILDIN3 : F. AWAHUBX . Feilding met Awahuri on the ground of the latter last Saturday in their final round for the Junior Cup and after a very toughly contested game, Awahun came■off yiotnrious by 4 points to nil. Feildmg team as vsuol i oiling up 3 men shorthand having to fiud substitutes on the: ground. Mr Henry officiated m that never- to-be-en vied billet of referee and gave every satisfaction. Mr Mann umpired for Awahuri and Mr Beard for •- Feilding. Feildiug kicked oft, which was smartly returned by Broughton to touch. The ball m play, Awahuri madeit interesting for Feilding for a while,. , keeping Feilding on their goal- line for a time in spite of the latters' strenuous endeavours to- get the ball away,, which, by good dribbling on the part of Aitkeh, Galway, and Giesen, they did, aided by several good kicks from their backs, the' ball going to touch at, half way. Theball in^ play, Awahuri rushed Feildihg'totheir line in great style and canted toe ball over Feilding's line, but the try was disallowed. Thfe seemed to rou&e Feild-
ing's mettle a bit, and they, pushed Awa--huri hard for a time; who, by loose dribbling play took the ball in Awahun's 25, where Aitken secured the ball and a sure' score seemed imminent, but he spoiled his.chance by trying to pass, Awahuri-re-lieved their line a little,- where Fanthorpe,by a dodgy run, carried the ball urAwahuri's 25. Feilding here seemed to begin* to warm to their work, Galwa'y, Giesen, ' _ Aitken, Colhns, forwards, and .Keen and Fanthorpe, backs; playing .well;* Here Feilding lost ground for a time, bufrrd--sponded by carrying the ball right under Awahun's goal posts, where a serum warformed, from which the ball, being neatly - passed to Keen, who passed to Fanthorpe and the latter to Giesen, but who failed to take, thus spoiling a sure score. Here* Awahun rushed the ball to .half, wayy , where Broughton made several usefuLi runs, but was always grassed, and the ball being kicked in touch the whistleblew. At the commencement of the second spell Feilding pushed Awahuri for awhile and onlookers thought Feildihg must score, but— they didn't. Awahuri ' rushed the ball back to half way, and- ' Saoson securing the ball from a line out,made a good run to Feilding's 25, where Mingins kicked into touch. Here Awa« huri threw in smartly, and by a good dribble by Bennett and Rockly the lattertouched down, Brotfghton's ; attempt at goal being a failure.' Feilding kicking" .off, pushed' Awahuri for a time, who- ; managed to clear their line to half, way, ' .were a- lot of loose play eventuated,, each side alternately gaining and -losingground.
