Mr Glover's Meeting

A large and enthusiastic meeting listened to a humorous and eloquent address from the* aboye temperance advocate last' evening, in the Salvation Army. Hall. The platform was occupied by His Worship the Mayor (who . presided), the Beys. H. M. Murray and W. -Harris, besides an improvised choir who rendered good seryice under the able conduct of Mr Shearer. Mrs J. C- Thompson presided at the harmonium. The lecturer gave a graphic description of the splendid work . done by Vthe men, women, and. children of Syderiham, which resulted inthe greatest victory ever won by temperance in the colony. He then dwelt for some time on the presenf position of the case, giving it as his decided opinion that the appeal to the highest court in the colony, to be heard in November, will uphold the Prohibitive powers of licensingcommittees. In ~ connection with the temperance triumphs of the past few months, Mr Glover grave the palm for.unwearied activity, and undaunted courage to the Bey. L. M. Isitt, to which, at the close of the meeting, the Mayor added his testimony by telling of the labors of that gentleman amonsjst the working classes while residing in "Wellington. Mr Glover began his discourse by recommending apreparation by iUr Eyres, of, Wellington, to be taken for coughs, colds! &c., instead of alcoholic drinks, giving the name, of C. P. Mai as the local agent. ,At the close of Mr Glover's interesting address the Eev. H. M. Murray told how temperance principles had grown on him as the years went by., and how pleased he was with the address he had just heard, and concluded by proposing/ 1 a hearty vote of thanks to the lecturer and chairman,. _ which was seconded by the Bey, W. Har- - ris, put to the meeting by Mr J. C Thompson, and carried by acclamation.
