i ♦ The following are the census returns for. the various proyincial districts, as compared with the returns for tbe previous census taken in 1886: — .
r This does not include the lighthouse population on the various islands. Nearly half of the total increase of the population of the Colony, it will be- seen, is claimed by Taranaki and Wellington.' This quite bears out the Registrar-General's prediction that if there was any abnormal increase in any particular district it would be found to be' on the West Coast of this island.
