Stevens and Gorton's Sheep Fair
The stock sale by Messrs Stevens and ■Gorton at Feilding. last Thursday, was the most successful ever held in the district. The entries of sheep and cattle were on a liberal scale, especially the I sheep, which numbered upwarJs of 7000 head. ThefJowingdiea few of the prices realised : — Fat 3-year steers, to £3 7s 6d ; steers and heifers, to £2 8s ; heifers, to J£3 12s 6d. The demand for ewes was unmistakeable, and the bidding throughout for these was very keen. One lot of 4, 6 and full-mouth ewes was passed in at 10s 4d ; 2-tooth ewes brought 10s, lls 4d and 12s ; fat ewes, 9s Id ; a pen of old fat ewes, 10s 6d ; "other lots of various quality were sold for 6s Id, 7s 4d, 7s 9d, 8s lid, 9s and 10s ; lambs in wool, 6s lOd, 7s 6d, 8s 3d, 8s 9d, 8s lid; lambs shorn, 5s 4d, 5s ,9d, 6s Id, 6s 9d ; Mr Bryce's rams, 2f guineas to 4£ guineas ; other rams, 21s to 425. It goes without saying that the vendors were well satisfied, while the purchasers " were equally pleased, because they will now be able to utilise the over-abundant feed which has been lately going to waste ' ibr want of stock to eat it".
