TttUBsDAY Island, January 28," News from the East reports that there was a terrible loss of life on the steamer Shanghai, which was burned on Christmas Day, principally due to the panic. The native villagers harassed the survivors in every possible way. The steamer was in the ' River Yang-tse-kiang at the time. 2QO souls perished in. the disaster.
