An Indian War

[PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.! N ew Yoek. December 30. While 100 Indians were being disarmed at Nebraska they suddenly attacked and killed 20 of the cavalry. A despatched fight ensued, resulting in the destruction of the Indians. January 1. Eighteen hundred Indian braves attacked Pine Ridge to-day, and by their atrocities have placed that country and its vicinity in a state of terror. One regiment of cavalry had a narrow escape from destruction, being very nearly entrapped by the Indians. The latter continue their depredations and have burnt the Catholic Mission. It is expected that war will be declared against the Indians, and their extermination will ensue. Washington, December 30. In an encounter between the troops and Indians in Nebraska, 75 cavalrymen and two officers were killed and wounded. One hundred and ten ! Indian warriors and 250 women and children were slaughtered. The whole of those in the camp being exterminated except six children. December 31. News has been received that 5000 Indians are encamped around Pine Ridge Agency, which is crowded vrifch settlers and their wives and families, who, being in mortal dread of the Indians have left their homes in the vicinity and have sought safety in the Agency. It is expected that the Indians will shortly make an attack oa the Agency. January 2. The Indians are attempting to burn Pine Ridge Agency, and are attacking Chadeon, in Nebraska. This town is filled with women and children, and troops have been ordered to the rescue.
