A motion was carried recommending the establishment of labor colonies on a similar plan to those established by Germans. Perth (W.A.), November 16. The warship Penguin has discovered a magnetic shoal near Cossack, the principal port of the North district, lying on the banks of a tidal creek some eight miles north of Roeburne. The shoal is said to be right in the track of vessels, and marvellously deflected the compasses from 50 degrees right to 23 degrees left. Sydney, November 17. Although the London dockers state that they have cabled LI 4,000 to Australia, the Defence Committee have only received L3IOO. Brisbane, November 17. The Government is taking steps to establish a weather observing station at Noumea, which will be the most complete in the Southern Hemisphere.
