London, November 16. The official report on the loss of H.M.S Serpent states that the weather was thick. The ship bumped on the rocks for half an hour, during which the officers remained on the bridge. The captain ordered the crew into the rigging, but a tremendous sea threw the steamer on to her beam ends. All those who were saved belonged to the crew of the lifeboat, aud were wearing life»belts. They were washed overboard, and knew nothing of what occurred after they parted company with the ship. Tallow — Medium mutton, 25s 3d ; ditto beef, 245. The English wheat market is heavy and inactive, and the Continental firm. The American market shows a general decline. New Zealand flour, patent, ex store, 24s 6d. Colonial oats average 26 s 6d. Australian leather — Best heavy, 7fd Hides— Cow, 3£d ; heavy ox, 3?d. The total arrivals of wool up to date are 72,000 bales. The quantity aow available for the ensuing series is 221,400 bales. November 17. The X.M.S. Kaikoura left Plymouth on Saturday for New Zealand. The Irish party are opposed to Mi Parnell's retirement, and Mr Dillon con- I sideis it lmvo^sible. Fifty bodies of those lost in the wreck of H.M.S. Serpent have been recovered. The Duke of Edinburgh is expected to preside at the court-martial to inquire into the loss of the ship.
