The other starters were Antseusv Ellerdale, Vespasia, Paris, Bungebah, Eclipse, Federation, 'Frisco, Pretty Kate and Betfbrd. Antaeus took the lead for a mile, when the horses began to close up, and six furlongs front home were all in a cluster. Little Bernie shot out of the ruck at the half-mile post, and assumed the lead, Papua coming up from the rear very fast, but could not get on terms with the leader, who won by a length and a half, Papua a length ahead of The Queen.
