.- Auc?LAND,!September 16: Th© Baptist Tabernacle Church, members, at a meeting to consider Pastor Birch's relations with the congregation, . especially the recent -scene at the; Tabernacle, decided by 97 to 77 to allow him to remain in charge of the church, an amendment that he be requested to resign being thus rejected. Pastor Birch was present during the whole of the proceed* ing, and was chairman. He declined to leave, though asked to do so. Mr Birch acknowledged that he had been injudicious on the Sunday evening When Mr Abbott spoke, and promised to do his best to work with the officers
