Fancy Dress Ball at Birmingham
The fancy dress ball held at Birmingham last night was very successful. There were about thirty-five couples present. The music was first-class, violin (Mr E. Cosß.y) and piano (Mr B. F. Haybittle). Mr and Mrs So.meryille were the only visitors from Feilding. Mr Somerville was Master of the -Geremonies and performed his arduous duties most efficiently. During the intervals between the dances refreshments were handed round. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the afiair. Some of the dresses were very expensive, and all were marked by perfectly good taste. Our reporter was unable to decide which character bore oft the palm ; but the evening dress of Mrs Church was certainly the most admired. The following is a list of the principal characters represented : — Mrs Somerville, " Night "; Miss A. Lowes, " Nancy Lee "; Miss P. Lowes, " Little Red Riding Hood "; Miss Low, " Good Luck "; Miss Brazier, " Parlour Maid"; Miss Mabel Richardson, "Flower Girl "; Miss Richardson, " Queen of the Night " ; Mrs Lockyer, " Spring "; Miss Kilgour, " Highland Lass "; Miss Fanny Kilgour, "Parlour Maid"; Miss Lydia Kilgour, " Red Cross Nurse "; Mrs Banks, "Frost"; Miss Mason, "Ivy"; Mrs Bryce, " Aurora Borealis "; Miss Cossey, j " Mountain Daisy"; Miss Smith, " Ladies' Maid"; Miss E.
