The captain and eleven of the crew of the ship Merope were landed ai Deal. The vessel's cargo having fired spontaneously near the Azoreß, the crew took to the boats and were rescued. The Merope was bound from , Wellington. [The Merope was an iron barque, of 1054 tons register. She left the port of Wellington for London on April 4th, with the following cargo : — 654 bales wool and skins, 197 casks tallow, 45 sacks hides, and 3001 bales flax. She was under the command of Captain Thomas.]
