U.Z. GRAND NATIONAL MEETING.
(Notes by Carbine.) On Thursday next the principal steeple■chaae meeting held in New Zealand will once more eventuate. Not so much interest has been displayed by the racegoing public this year in the several events as has been the case of yore, while the poor class of horses entered is, as was ,%he case at Wellington, again apparent. The first event on the programme is the Hunters' Hurdle Race, and out of the -eight acceptors the ones that strike me as the pick of the bunch are — Preston (11-0), IVaipapa (il-0), and Victor (11-3). Bracelet — Leonardo, 1 ; Bredalbane, 2. The third event to be decided is the fiece de resistance, the Grand Nftiona'. Steeplechase, of 400 soys, about 4 mil s ■Only five horses are left in for this valuable prize, viz, : Ahua (12-0), Squib (10-3), Little Arthur (9-10), Daddy Longlegs and Enterprise (9-7). I see nothing that ■can beat the top weight, he being exceedingly well, and has been taking his exercise jumps kindly. I think Ahua's nearest attendants will be Little Arthur and Paddy Longlegs. Eight have cried content for the Grand [National Hurdles, of 300 soys, 2 miles, ihey being— lxion (10-9), Erin-go-bragh And Little Arthur (10-0), Leonardo and Harkaway (9-9), Romulug (9-7), Trimolite (9-5), and Iroquois (9-0). Ahua's stable mate Ixion should win, with Erin-go-bragh and Trimolite in the places. Maiden Steeplechase — Sir Maurice, 1 ; Ahua, 2; Bloodsucker, 3.
