The Feilding Hounds
A first-class day's sport was had with the above hounds on Wednesday last, the fixture being at Feilding, and our country was nearly the same as we hunted over the week previous. There was a large field out, including a great many ladies, the majoring of the latter being in traps. Punctually at 1 o'clock the hounds left Feilding and trotted down to Mr Munro'a farm, where they soon found a hare, which gave us a smart gallop in a circle for about two miles, and was eventually lost in the bush near Mr Whisker's house. Drawing again in one of Mr McDonald's paddocks another hare was soon on foot, which gave us the best and fastest gallop of 35 minutes I have had in New Zealand. The first fence (a wire one) put nearly all the field out of the early part of the run, it being negoiated only by Boake (the huntsman) and Messrs Page and Hooper, of Halcombe. I don't know the names of the various gentlemen's property we were over, only when our hare was nearly beaten we were stopped by a gentleman who evidently does not agree with the noblest of sport — hunting. After getting 1 on to the road again and partaking of a welcome pull at our fl sk;, a drag was laid from Mr Saxon's place to Feilding, in which about twenty members took part in, the first flight men being Messrs Page, Lance, Lovejoy, Eutherford, Hooper, McDonald, Nethercliff, Harley, Boake, &c. During the drag hunt Mr Horsford met with an accident, his horse falling and dragging him in the stirrup. I hear that he is now progressing favorably. Out master, Mr Lance, informed me yesterday that the meet at Parawanui is postponed from next Wednesday until the hoands return from Wellington. Myles B. Hynde.
