Feilding State School
A special meeting of the Committee of the above was held last evening. Present — Messrs Lethbridge (Chairman), "Watts, Morey, Curtis, Worsfold, Hicks and Gould. Correspondence was read from the Secretary of the Education Board, enclosing resolution passed at the last meeting of the Board re the dismissal of the head teacher and mistress, which has already appeared in these columns, and desiring a reply by Monday, the 7th instant. A circular was received from same, asking if the Committee had any suggestions to make with regard to any alteraations in the boundaries of the district. — No action was taken. With respect to the teacher difficulty, Mr Curtis thought the Board by the tone of their letter had certain information which they wished to impart to the Committee, and he suggested that a deputation be sent to the Board. The Chairman and Mr Worsfold considered that a deputation from the Board to the committee would be the best, as all the Committee would then be able to be present at the consultation. Mr Morey believed the Board had a thorough knowledge of the teachers, but j if they had anything against Mr Wilks before he applied for the position of head teacher, why did they send his name down among the applicants ? He ex pressed a wish that the matter was settled, as some of the members were getting sick of it. A conversation among the members ended in Mr Morey proposing, and Mr Wor«fold seconding, That a deputation from the Board be received by this Committee, and that it is in the opinion of this Committee that Mr Wilks and Mrs Lissaman be present at the consultation. — Carried. The tender of Mrs Fidler at £21 was accepted for cleaning the School for the ensuing year. Mr Curtis drew attention to the fact that the schoolmaster's residence was occupied by strangers. The regulations distinctly said that no person should be allowed to occupy the residence except the schoolmaster and his family. The Chairman intimated that Mr Wilks was not receiving any rent tor the place, but had simply put some one in to look after the residence. The meeting then adjourned.
