Meeting at Mangaone

A well attended meeting of shareholders and others interested in building a Public Hall, was held in the Mangaone schoolhouse on Wednesday evening last, when good progress in furtherance of the object in yiew was made. Mr Thos. Shortall occupied the chair. The canvassers then presented their reports, which were found to be very satisfactory, over 100 shares having been applied for. Seve ft' more applications were made in the room. The meeting decided, after discussion, to accept Mr J. T. Smith's offer of a site on the Taonui road. Twelve gentlemen were then selected to direct the affairs of the company, viz., Messrs Nilsson, Stewart, Shortall, Jas. Garlick, Pleasants, A. Pringle, Power, Francis, Densham, D. Knight, Lankshear and J. H. Ashworth. Messrs Shortall, Lankshear and Pleasants being elected respectively chairman, secretary, and treasurer. A resolution was carried that the property of the Mangaone Public Hall be yested in Messrs John Nikon, Thomas Shortall and James Garlick as trustees for the company. It was then decided to call up 10s per share on the 15th of this month, and the balance in three months after that date, After some more routine business had been transacted, a vote of thanks was passed to the chairman and the meeting adjourned until the 15th instant.
