In the race for the Derby Eirkham led' for about half a mile, but was then done for. Sainfoin won by three-quart-ers of a length, a neck separating Le Nord and Orwell, Surefoot being a head behind the latter. The time was 2min.49Jaec. The Standard says the short, scratchy action of Eirkham was not equal to Derby form, and he gave a poor opinion of his capabilities. Mr White's colt acted as whipper-in, arid hung on his bridle with his mouth wide open, causing' general laughter. ' ■
