Mr Macarthur at Mangaone

Mr Macarthur addressed a meeting of his constituents at Mangactne on Wednesday night last. Although the weather was somewhat threatening there was » very good attendance. Mr W. Feared was voted to the chair, and after a few introductory remarks, invited Mr Macarthur to address, the audience. Mr Macarthur's speech was principally a summaryof the work done during last session. He fully explained the meaning of the Charitable Aid Bill and Representation Bill, and also dwelt at some length upon the Education system and Land Nationalisation, showing where improvements had been made in the land laws, and pointed out improvements which he believed might, still be effected. With respect to the illness of the Premier, Mr Macarthur expressed a wish that he would soon be restored to health, a sentiment which was echoed by everyone jn the room. At the conclusion of the address, after several questions had been answered by the speaker, it was proposed by Mr Short-ail, and seconded, by Mr Pleasants, that a hearty vote of thanks and confidence be accorded to Mr Macarthur, which was carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chair brought the meeting to a close. - ' : _^_^_ ' :
