Funeral at Kiwitea
♦— , The funeral of the onjy son of Mr George Kidd, of Kiwitea, ' (the death of whom took place on Friday last) was held on Sunday. The relatives, connections and friends of the family began to assemble at the house shortly before one o'clock, -and at that hour the Rev. Mr Stewart, Presbyterian minister, read the Psalms appropriate to the occasion, and afterwards delivered a most impressive prayer. The funeral cortege was then formed up in the road in front of the house, and proceeded on its melancholy journey to the cemetery, which is situated about three miles beyond Birmingham. As the procession advanced fresh arrivals joined it, and by the time it reached its final destination the horsemen, and mounted ladies, numbered upwards of seventy. There were also six carriages, and at the cemetery there were a number of residents near at hand to take part. The Rev. Mr Stewart (a grandfather of the deceased) delivered a most touching address* during which not only the speaker but many of the mourners were visibly affected. The large concourse of people present on the occasion from Feilding and all parts of the settlement, bach one of whom testified to the widespread sympathy felt, and expressed, for Mr and. Mrs Kidd in their sad bereavement, must have given some consolatipn, and .afforded them" a slight relief to the iritensfty of their sorrow for their irreparable lbss.
