The election for Stoke -upon Trent, caused by the resignation of Mr W, L Bright, resulted in the return of Mr Levesoti Gower, a Oladstoue Liberal who polled 4157 votesagainst 2926 by Mr W. S. Allen the Toi-y candidate. In the House of Lords, the Marquis of Salisbury has given, notice of motion that the House adopt* the report of the Times- Parn ell Commission, and passes a vote of thanks to the Judges for their impartial conduct. Several Tory societies are prompting a vote of censure on Lord Bandolpb Churchill for his speech on the Parnell Commission on the 11th inst. March 15. In the House of Commons- the;motion tabled by Sir George Treveh n, member for Bridgetown (Glasgow), in favour of Parliament meeting in November and rising in July, was, on division, negatived by a majority of f our. It has been discovered that the ex plosion in the Aorfa colliery/ resulting in a large loss of life, was caused by a miner firing a shot without permission.
