Kiwitea Road Hoard
The ordinary meeting of the aboye was held on Saturday. Present — Messrs Taylor (chairman) Williamson, Shannon, Fowles, Homer, Haythorne, Lucas, Mills and Reid. * ; , The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. . Inward correspondence was read and dealt with in the resolutions which follow; Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Fowles, That Mr Mowatt be refused leave to erect a gate on .the road, and that notice be given to Mr Lowes to remove the gates erected by him (with the permission of and at the Board's pleasure) within three months from date.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Mills, seconded by Mr Lucas, That Mr Coote see the warden for the Makino road re gravel he requires from the board's pit. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Williamson, That Mr R. Taylor be informed that he may fell bush on the road line on the Board's usual terms.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr Haythorne, That the rates in hand from sections held by settlers signing the petition in the Pemberton- block be spent according to their request on the main road, and that the Engineer have the necessary work of maintenance on the Oroua Valley road and Kimbolton road carried but, and that a sum not exceeding =£7 be spent in making; a crossing over the Gorge on the Bhiff road ; also that a tree from Mr Curries section now across the road be cleared off at Mr .Curries expense, unless cleared away by him. — Carried. . Proposed by Mr Reid, seconded by Mr Mills, That the applications for transferring sections from I. Horn to- A. F. Stokes, E. Gregory to John Gould, and J C. Christian Meyer to A. E. Pearce be granted. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Shannon* seconded by Mr Williamson, That the- Engineer be instructed to prepare plans and call for tenders, to be in by 29th March, for forming 10 chains on road along Williamson's frontage, the Ongo and .Waituna Wards I to be charged equal' portions of the expense. Tenders to- be opened by Messrs Williamson and Shannon, and the Engineer. — Carried, : ; ■■■■■- Proposed by Mr. Fowles, seconded by Mr Lucas, That the part of Upper Cross road Apiti, mentioned by Mr Jefferies,. be formed eight feet wide, and that the extra 8 feet be paid for out of the ward account. — Carried. " Proposed by Mr Fowles^ seconded by Mr Lucas, That tenders be called for metalling main road, Feilding Block, to .be in within 14 days from date, the same to be opened by the chairman and gineer.—CarriedProposed by Mr Homer, seconded v by Mr J. Reid, That tenders be called for" 25 chains, more or less, of side-cutting on the Peep o' Day road. Tenders to close at the next meeting ; also, That permission be granted to Mr Sherlock to fell' bush asked for on the Board's usual terms.— Carried. • ■ Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Fowles, That all outstanding rates due to the' Kiwitea Road Board after seven days from date be sued for.— Carried. , 'Proposed by Mr Williamjwn, seconded by Mr Taylor, That the- be instructed to arrange for the employment of two men to be constantly employed on the roads in the following wasds, viz* Kimbolton, Makino, Waituna, and Oroua, wages 6a per day. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Eeid, seconded by Mr Homer, That application be made 'to the Land Board for accrued thirds up to- Ocbo~ ber, 1889, amounting to .£B3 14s 9d, to be spent in making bridle track and side cutting on the Papakuri road, commencing on and through 'section 66, and* as- far as the money will go. — Carried. Proposed by Mr J. Reid, seconded by Mr Homer, That the Engineer get side cuttings 5 or 6 feet wide- along the Township and Rangitikei East road, to- the amount of £60, ..to be called by tender fo* next meeting:— Carried. Proposed by Mr Mills,, seconded by Mr Lucas/That the dog tax for the current year be 7s 6d, reducible to 5s if paid within three months, and that Mr Goodbehere be appointed ■ registrar, and that •Mr Church's store be the registration- office.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Haythorne, That the Engineer call for tenders for road-making in Ongo- Ward, as per schedule of expenditure sent to Commissioner of Crown Lands.. Tenders to close on 29th March. — Carried. Mr Lucas moved, according to notice, That the Pohangina Ward be formed into a separate Road Board District. He explained at length his reasons for wishing to separate. ' • Mr Taylor stated that the scheme proposed would be quite unworkable* Mr Reid opposed. Mr Taylor suggested that the natural boundaries should be followed as far as possible. After discussion the resolution was put and carried. Proposed by Mr Shannon, and seconded by Mr Homer, That the Kiwitea Road Board. give its approval to the ratepayers in the Ongo Ward, petitioning the Government to constitute the Ongo- Ward aboard within itself, arid to be styled the Ongo Road Board; the boundaries to be the same as those of the present ward. The Chairman objected to the motion as he considered the district would be too j small. The resolution was then put and lost. Tenders were opened for road work in ■ the Foxton Block, and that of Gichard and Nicols was accepted. Accounts- were passed to the amount of j£77B 0s 2dy and the Board adjourned till 19th April.
