Manchester Road Board
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday afternoon last. Present— Messrs Lethbridge, Pearce and Purkiss. Mr Lethbridge was voted to the chair. • The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Treasury Office, re £482 Os 2d half year's interest due. From C. Warne, asking permission to lay tramway across Pohangina road. From W. A. Sandilands, with oheque £5 18s, amount of tolls owing by Mr Warren: From P. and J. Bartholomew, re payment for felling bush on road line. From Treasury Oflice, advice of payment of £270 into bank to Board's credit. From Colonial Secretary's Office, with notice o* result of poll for loan of £4,750 returned. From Secretary Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, with request for payment of contributions. From R. James, asking permission to erect a verandah at Ashurst, and re change of name on rate roll. From A. Grammar, giving required indemnity for cutting road through sec. 16, Ashurst, to give access to Pohangina riyer From Railway Department, re railway employes authority to impound cattle, thanking the Board for consenting to give authority. . ■. From Town Clerk Palmerston, asking for appointment of a delegate re choosing a site fpr hospital From Rangitikei County Council, re Onepubi bridge, to the effect ihat the Council- had proceeded with the work of erection of a pi»r b fore the Board's resolution on the matter. * From the chairman of the Board, with report of committee's acceptance of tenders for works. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That Mr R. James be granted permission o erect a verandah io shop on section 333 at Ashurst, subject to the usual conditions.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That Mr Warne be given permission to lay a tramway across the Pohangina road, subject to the approval of the Engineer. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That the report of the committee appointed to accept tenders for works in No. 5 ward be adopted. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That Mr Macarthur be appointed a delegate to represent the Manchester Road Board on a couunittee, for the purpose of choosing a si c for a hospital building for this district, and a plan for the same. — Can ied. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, • seconded by Mr W"*ce, That Mr Lethbridge be appointed Treasurer for this meeting. — Crried. • ' Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That the Engineer inspect Laka'-ohewski road, and expend £10 to c:« able set l ers to cart their grain to formed road.— Can ied. - • Proposed by Mr- Pearce, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That ?he Engineer be authorised to call tenders for the metalling oi Stoney Creek road, also for the formation and metalling about 5 chain's of north end of Bunnythorpe road, tenders to be in at next meeting,— Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Pearce, That Mr R. James' name be placed on rate roll in lieu of Colonists' Land and JJoan Corporation for section 333, Ashurst. — Carried. The following are the tenders for works accepted by the committee appointed for the purpose : — Feiiding-Bunnythorpe road — formation, No. 1 contract. J. H. Anderson, £135; No. 2 contract, B. Poole, £147. Metalling, No. 1 contract, J. H. Anderson, BSs per chain ; "No. 2 contract, F. Berhendt, 35s per chain.- Spur Road — S; Coker, formation £67 17s, and metalling 28s per chain. Ashurst-Bunnythorpe road, S. Coker, formation and metalling, £123 14s. Forlong's road— -Formation Nos. 1 and 2 contracts, J. MeColl, £284; metalling, A. Nathan, 24s per chain. Reid's Line— Formation No. I contract, B. Poole, £92 ; Nos. 2 and 3 contracts, Madsen and Klink, £369 9s 6d. Metalling No. 1 contract, Younger and Laing, 38s per chain ; metalling Nos. 2 and 3 contracts, J. MeColl, 30s per chain. Taonui road — Formation and- metalling No. 1 contract, J. Belfit, £183 ; formation No 2 contract, J. W. Wratt, £64 10s; formation No. 3 contract, B. Poole, £98 15s; metalling Nos 2 and 3 contracts, J. H. Anderson, 35s per chain. Stoney Creek ■ road — Formation No. 1 contract, J. H. Anderson, £285; all metalling tenders for Stoney Creek road are rejected. Accounts amounting to about £700 were passed for payment, after which the Board adjourned.
