In draughts, Mr Mariirau's British Lion was awarded the championship, Mr Gwan'B Qaeen of Quality filling the position for mares The blo-xl .-tock war* about up to the u^ual htand_rd,'Le Loup beat Captain Webster and Van»uard. Doxler waa awarded the (r-'ye-nor's prizefor a hackney entire. Hie Excellency Lord Onslow and the Couutea. were present. At the luncheon, at which hi* Excellency was present, in proposing the toast of the A. /and P. Association, hesaid :— '* Having travelled through your agricultural and pastoral districts and having visited the agricultural district? of Canterbury and the North Island, I can only say v this that if you do not excel in those pursuits it wjH. be the fault of the Scotchmen, and not of tbe country of New Zealand*
