Separation from Kiwitea
Many of tbe settlers on the Foxton Block, Pohangina, attended the public meeting convened by Mr J. R. Anderson in Nelson's Hall , Ashurst, on Wednesday night to consider the advisability of separating from the Kiwitea Road district, and to make the Pohangina river their limit. Mr J. R. Anderson having been voted to the chair proceeded to lay the undermentioned petition before the meeting :— We the undersigned ratepayers in the Pohangina district from the mouth of Coal Creek from thence following Coal Creek to its source ; on the west following the Native line along the western watershed to the Pohangina Gorge — desire a separation from the Kiwitea Road Board in order to form the above into a separate road district, to be known as the Pohangina Road District. This petition was signed by all those living in the vicinity. Many of the selectors live at Foxton and Palmerston and it is expected that their signatures will all be obtained in time to forward the petition to Feilding to be presented to the Kiwitea Road Board at their next sitting on December 21st. The followinggentleman were selected to serve on a Committee: — Messrs J. R. Anderson, J. S. Freeman, J. Jarvis, W. Port, E. Potts, T. Retemeyor, W. Wickens. The next meeting will be called to consider the reply which will be received from the Kiwitea Road Board. A vote of thanks to the Chairman bought this preliminary meeting to a close. — Manawatu Times.
