The alterations on the rate roll were granted subject to the consent of the other parties. The amount of levy for Charitable Aid and Hospital purposes was agreed io. The accounts for bushfelling were placed with the other general accounts. .Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr Mills, That a daughter license be granted to Mr Stent. — Carried. With reference to Dr Bennett's application to fell a road line, the Board had nothing before them to point out the nature or extent of even the locality of the road in question, and the Clerk was instructed to write to the applicant for further particulars. Proposed by Mr Williamson, seconded by Mr Lucas, That Messrs Bruce and Macarkhur, M.H.R.s, be requested to bring a bill before Parliament to facilitate ihe local bodies in money arising from deferred payment lands and lease lands, as under the present system it was almost impossible to do the work most necessary.
Mr Williamson spoke of the utter impracticability of complying with the Act as regards getting the signature of every ratepayer before applying for said moneys, and thought it was time the matter was .legislated upon so as to bring the conditions within the range of possibility. The Board agreed with him and the motion was carried.
Proposed by Mr Haythorne, seconded by .Mr Williamson, That the Engineer be instructed to invite tenders for delivering 500 yards of metal on Kimbolton road within the Kimbolton ward, tenders to be opened on Saturday June 1, by the Engineer and Mr Haythorne, and that the Engineer be authorised to employ labor to spread and break up the metal and to clear out the water tables where necessary. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Haythorne, -That the Engineer be instructed to lay off deviation of Bryce's road. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Mr Reid, That notice . be . given of the Board's intention, at a meeting to be held on^SAtuf day 15th June, 1889, to strike or levy a special rate of 4d and £ of a penny in the £ upon the whole of the rateable value of the property within the Ruahine ward (Crown and Native Lands excepted), for the purpose of providing interest and sinking fund on a loan of .£4OOO, to be by the Kiwitea Road Board under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act. — Carried. - Proposed by Mr TTorner, seconded by Mr Reid, That the .ngineer be empowered to take the necessary steps for keeping the. side cutting leading to the Oroua river open during the coming winter, the cost not to exceed jElO.— Carried. ; Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr, Reid, That the Engineer call for tenders for carrying out the work proposed by him on the Peep-o'-Day road, and that the bad places on the Otamakapua main track^^made good, and all trees and 6lip3 cleaiel off, the balance to be laid out _» widening tbe present track to 12 feet, commencing at the northern boundary of the Palmerston -Block, if approved of by the Land Board. — Carried. Imposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Mills, That the chairman and Mr Williamson be authorised to sign cheques.— Carried. After passing accounts for payment tne Board adjourned;
