" As Others See Us"

I arrived at Feilding about mid-day Entering the town from the Awahuri side, and from the hill at the back of the latter place, I had a splendid view of the country lying to the North of Feilding between the Oroua and Pohangina Rivers. The roads, the style of the farm-houses and their grounds, the churches, and the orchards reminded me of dear old England more than any other part of New Zealand that I have ever visited. Between Hawera and Waitotara were grades on the road that would have frightened a new-chum to drive down ; but here were roads gently winding in and out, and with here and there a gentle rise and dip over a culvert or a bridge ; it might have been Esshx repeated in this respect. — Own Correspondent of Auckland Herald.
