A son of Mr Gladstone has evicted four tenants from the Hawarden estate because - they were five years *& arrears of rent. The Unionist journals, in commenting on the matter, consider it is a parallel to the evictions in Ireland. Washinotob. February 15. President Cleveland has relegated to General Harrison, the President-elect, the choice of.selecting a delegate to act for America on the proposed conference to discuss the Samoan question. Mr Gladstone is at present sojourning at Cannes. itio de JaNbiso, February 15. The Buapehu arrived yesterday, all well, with her cargo of frozen most in good condition. Svaxjoc, February 16. The cavalry made a reconnaisance today in the direction of Handoub, and on arrival there found the place deserted. The officers state that the camp is sufficient to 1 fed 10,000 men. The cavalry, after firing the huts and destroying all the material likely to be of use to therebels, returned to the forts. Beblik. Febrnary 16. A White Book just issued, in dealing with the Sauioan affawdeclaree Malietoa Mataafa to be a rebel, and adds that anyone helping him must take the consequences. It says the position of foreigners in the island has not been changed. Paris, February 15. An unsuccessful attempt has been made to blow up the post office at Ghatres, a town in the department of Eure et Loir* with dynamite' M. Mekne, number for the department of Rue de Vaugirard, who moved the amendment which resulted in. the defeat of the Government and caused the Premier to resign, has accepted the task of forming a Government.
