The number* are-' Freetrade. 71 ; Protection, 65. In thelast Parliament the state of the parties was — Freetrade supporters, 80 ; Protection, 44. Thus the latter have secured a considerable number of additional adherents. Of 13 new seats those in favour of Protection secured eight. Received February 19. 12,40 p.m. Sydney, February 10. The official record of the rainfall during; last year is the smallest on record, being: 43 percent, below the average. It will take the squatters two years to recover their losses. It is stated over a hundred member* of Parliament are pledged to the extension of local option, while fifty 'five .are against compensation being granted to the publicans deprived of their licenses.
