The publishers of Sir Morell Mac» kenzie's book, anticipating that it might possibly be confiscated, sold and distributed a large number of the books secretly. The importation of the work into Germany was effected previously to the book appearing in England, by means of packages so branded that the heavy import duty on the material which the packages were supposed to contain completely deluded the authorities as to the actual nature of their contents.
The Times, in the course of an article on the quarrel between Sir Morell Mackenzie and the German doctors, declares that the former's diagnosis of the disease from which the late Emperor Frederick was suffering was wrong, though it was impossible to say whether the treatment prescribed by the German doctors or Sir Morell Mackenzie was right. Bkklin, October 17. The revelations contained in Sir Morell Mackenzie's book are causing a feeling of increased animoßity in the German Court officials toward England. Doctors Virchow and Waldeyer contradict Sir Morell Mackenzies's statement reference to mal-prae-tice on the part of Dr Bergmann, when operating m the trachea of the late Emperor Fj ed«ricks throat, and declare that the autopsy revealed no traces of such blundering as that ascribed by Sir Morell to Dr Bergmann's operation. [ LONEOV, October 19. I Count Hatzfeldt Wildernberg, the German Ambassador has made a formal complaint to Lord Salisbury in reference to the publication of fac similes of portions of the late Emperor's diary. The Premier repudiated any complicity in the matter by himself or any member of the Koyal Family, and has promised to institute enquiries as to how parts of the late Emperor's diary came into possession of the publishers.
