Mr Macarthur said there was a minute made at the last meeting of the Committee with reference to the tenure. of the Recreation Ground. He explained that the land in question had been properly reserved by the Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation for the purpose of a Recreation Ground for the Borough and settlement generally. He pointed out the objections which obtained against handing the control of the land either to the Borough Council or trustees. He was aware there was a certain feeling of insecurity as t » a possible risk of the Corporation retaining possession of the land. He assured the meeting that that was impossible, because the land had been passed through the Donation Account in the books of the Corporation, and so distinguished on the plan accepted and registered in the Land Transfer Office.
The meeting was satisfied with this explanation, and decided not to disturb existing arrangements.
The Committee decided to meet on Saturday, the 27th instant.
The usual vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
The usual subscription list was opened in the room, and liberally patronised.
